Domains ยป Domain Guide

A 'Domain Name' is the simple, user-friendly way of viewing your website. For example, our Domain is invisional.co.uk. Here are some top tips for choosing a great Domain Name for yourself.

Keep It Simple

Some domains can be up to 63 characters long, but bear it in mind that that people need to be able to remember it and type it into their web browser. Try to register the shortest name that can be easily associated with your website. Generally, we suggest around ten characters or two simple words.

Dot...what?

There are many different domain extensions available right now. But again, keep it simple! We suggest .com, .co.uk or .biz extensions for businesses and .org or .org.uk for organisations/charities.

Register now!

Register your domain name as soon as possible, or you may end up with "the-domain-name-that-no-one-wanted.co.uk". You don't need to be an expert, or even have a website, just get out there and order your domain name before you miss out on the name you really want!

One might not be enough...

Sometimes it is a good idea to register several similar domain names, particularly if you own a trademark for a certain name. If you have "yourname.com", register "yourname.co.uk" so no one else takes it. You can register your full company name and a shorter, easier to remember version. Some people even register common misspellings of their company's name. You don't need a separate web page for each, several domains can point to the same website using domain name mappings.

Character Types

Just a reminder: domain names can only use letters, numbers, and dashes; spaces and symbols are not allowed. Also, be aware that domain names are not cAsE sEnSiTiVe.

Don't pay over the odds!

Some companies charge up to £100 for a domain name! Here at Invisional Hosting, our domain names start at just £9 each! So, start searching for domains now!
